I’m really thrilled today to have one of all time favorite indie authors stop by and take over – frankly I need a much-required break (LOL!).
Shami writes in several genres including Fantasy, Sci-Fi and Crime Thrillers.
If you haven’t read her dark and gritty crime ‘Vice City’ series – go get it now!
Shami, welcome!

Hello, peeps of the internet! This is Shami Stovall (also known as SA Stovall) here to bring you a guest post on indie authors. The general consensus of the writing community is that indie authors don’t make money—their books are long forgotten, and probably trash. Don’t get wrong, since you can self-publish anything, some indie books probably fall into the “dumpster fire” category, but there are hundreds, perhaps hundreds of thousands, of great books out there if you’re willing to look.
I can already hear some of you saying, “But I don’t have time to look. I have a job, three kids, thirty animals, and Funko Pop collection that won’t dust itself.”
No need to fret! I’ve got you covered. Today I have 3 indie authors who not only have tons of books for you to sink your teeth into, but the majority of people consider them great authors worthy of the time and money.
Without further ado, let’s get into it!
#3—Jay Bell

Jay Bell is a prolific LGBTQ+ author who wrote the “Something Like…” series starting back in 2011. He also wrote the critically claimed novel, Kamikaze Boys, and is known for his sweet style. You can immediately recognize his novels by the stylistic approach he takes with his covers, and as far as I can tell, he’s self-published each and every one of his books.

If you’re into pleasant romance and interesting covers, you should definitely check him out.
#2—Sarah Hoyt

Sarah was born and raised in Portugal and later moved to the United States. She writes fantasy and science fiction with female leads who would best be described as, “damsels who cause distress.” She’s in several famous anthologies, right alongside Jim Butcher. Although she doesn’t publish everything indie, she’s a hybrid author that broke away from major publishers when she realized she could just do it herself.

If you’re in the mood for strong female characters traveling through space, time, and fantasy check her out.
#1—Will Wight

Will is another science fiction fantasy author who struck it out on his own when major publishers wouldn’t take his work. Now he’s a highly successful indie author with thousands upon thousands of fans around the world. His most famous series—the Cradle series—was started back in 2016 and currently has 6 novels. It focuses on interesting Chinese-themed magic system based around martial arts and the inner spirit. All of his novels are self-published, and I’m sure his fans don’t even care.

If you’re into crazy fight scenes, martial arts, and a unique magic system, you should check him out.
And that’s it! Indie authors have come a long way from the days of old. As a matter of fact, most major publishing houses report a decline in readers, whereas reports on indie sales continue to go upward. Not only that, but indie audiobooks have become a real thing, adding to the small business that is indie publishing.
If you liked my guest post, and want to learn more about me or my work, check out my website, or check out my sci-fi epic, STAR MARQUE RISING, or check out my crime noir by DSP Publishing, VICE CITY! Both of which are fantastic series—and don’t take my word for it—check out those reviews!
