Blitz! Winter Masquerade by Kevin Klehr

I’m excited to have Kevin Klehr drop by the blog today! He has a new book coming out soon, and I think everyone should check it out. Kevin is a fellow author from NineStar Press. Check out his socials below to find out more about him, but I can tell you this. Kevin is Australian, and I don’t know about you, but an Australian accent gets me every time. I’ve listened to Kevin do some readings from his books, and his voice is just mesmerizing – and so are the tales! So, I highly encourage you to check this out – a little guest blog post from Mr. Klehr himself:

Whimsical Fantasy with Dark Corners

My new eBook novella, Winter Masquerade, is in parts, the darkest piece I’ve written. Ferris finds himself on a mystical cruise liner with eccentric characters reminiscent of Alice In Wonderland. He initially meets the band who are rehearsing for the masquerade ball. The guitarist, Cole, becomes a love interest, even though the main theme of this tale is not romance. Love, yes. Just not romance.

A well-read ten-year-old helped me with various elements of this story. She named my boy drummer, Scallywag, and she gave me an evil pastime for my harpist, Olive. She develops homicidal tendencies in the story’s darker moments.

You see, while most of the book is whimsical, Ferris must also navigate this world when it goes steampunk from time to time. This is when he needs to seek out the Alchemist for both protection and advice.

When the Winter Masquerade begins, Ferris is forced to drop his mask and examine his life back in the real world. It’s not as rosy as he likes to pretend.

Fortunately, he has Cole by his side, as well as several other friends like Janus, a handbag-sized flying horse who assists with the riddles given to Ferris from the steampunk universe. Camilla and Molly, the Alchemist’s wife and his mistress, are also there as close pals who help decipher these riddles.

Through all this oddball enchantment, there is another message for the reader to unravel. A reflection on life and the masks we wear.
