Synopsis:

With Angel Tanner, the android that runs California’s criminal underworld, pulling the strings, PI Cassie Tam finds herself thrust into a conflict with New Hopeland’s biggest and baddest. But working with the murderous AI may be the only way that Cassie can get to the bottom of her home’s greatest mystery: What is New Hopeland City?

As she struggles to balance her dealings with allies and enemies alike, Cassie is left with a difficult choice. She has always straddled the line between light and dark. Now, the time to decide which side she’s on is drawing close…if she can figure out which is which.

My Review:

One of the first lines at the beginning of the book is: To be read in order. In other words, don’t read book five before you’ve completed one through four.

And of course, I’m sure you can all guess what I did? That’s right, I didn’t heed the rules and so here I am writing a review on the last in the series when I haven’t read the entire series!

However, rest assured I will return to those books and make sure I get them read!

Despite the fact I can’t follow directions, Doyle has wrapped up The Cassie Tam Files with a brilliant, fast-paced, action-packed ending that will be sure tp please the Cassie Tam fans. This last read is shorter, more of a novella really, but ties up a number of loose ends and concludes the series in a satisfactory manner.

Throughout the books, Cassie has always danced on that line between good and evil, dark and light, and in this last installment, she’s forced into choosing one side over the other. All I will say is the end result couldn’t have been better – loved it.

Bert is also a central key figure in the story – as he should be – he was one of the elements from the very first book that hooked me. After all, who doesn’t want their very own gargoyle bodyguard?

The love interest, Lori also features in the story, sadly however, there is only passing references to Ink, another well-loved side character.

All in all, this was the perfect way to wrap things up for Cassie. I am looking forward to what other writing adventures Doyle has planned.
